Technological Breakthrough in 1930s

Rata Penuh1930s are recognized as a period of novelties and discoveries in radio physics. However, it is not a complete truth, insomuch as many other new solutions were introduced in science. The entire range of technologies discovered during this period facilitated further progress and they literally appear to be the basis of modern technological breakthrough.

In 1933 a frequency modulation was introduced that encouraged distribution of radio devices. In particular, Edwin Howard Armstrong announced that data must be transmitted via radio signals varying in frequency rather than amplitudes. Lots of major companies struggled with his idea, obstructing the patent issue. The thing is that they have invested lots of money in amplitude modulation and, therefore, promising revenues would not be realized with distribution of frequency modulation. As a result, Armstrong committed a suicide because of serious depression.

The other novelty designed in 1933 is a gypsum wallboard. Its contribution to interior decorating was unbelievable. In addition, a basis that is a mixture of recycled paper and cheap mineral - gypsum, appeared to be low cost, facilitating constructing industry.

In 1934 famous Bible for investors appeared - «Security Analysis», written by Benjamin Graham and David Dodd. Being published in the period of Great American depression, it helped a lot from the point of stock market analysis.

This year the first synthetic fiber was created - nylon. It is an achievement of Wallace Hume Carothers, a head of Chemistry department at DuPont Corporation at the time. However, he was not destined to see the progress of his invention and its massive usage in industry: in 1937 he also committed a suicide.

The experience of World War I, especially the number of human deaths, encouraged Bernard Fantus to create the first blood bank in the hospital (Cook County in Chicago), which resembled to those ones during the World War. The start of digital connection is also recorded in 1937. Alec Reeves has developed a communication device that converts audio signals into electronic pulses to transmit it through ordinary telephone lines, and then pulses are converted back to an analog signal in the reception.

The introduction of xerography is tightly associated with patenting. In practice, Chester Floyd Carlson, patent legislation specialist, was overwhelmed with copying patent applications. In 1934 he started a device, which converted images from illuminated photographic plates on a clean sheet of paper. In 1937 he was successful to create the first copying machine. The first company to apply his invention was Haloid Ltd.
